Cause: #
Usually, websites are available with and without “www” in the domain name. This issue is quite common, and people link to both www and non-www versions. Fixing this will help you prevent search engines from indexing two versions of a website.
setting one version as a priority is best practice, especially because it helps you save link juice from links with and without www for one common version.
How to resolve it: #
You can set up and view the primary www or non-www version for your site in the .htaccess file.
If it is a newly created website, you have 2 options. You can either redirect
- www to non-www version, or
- non-www to www version
If it is not a newly created website, it will have some backlinks to either version. Please refer to the recommendations provided by RankChutney for the best way to resolve this issue.
